Logging in with a social media account provides games with more information than one might expect—some games use it to impersonate your friends.
Defined
Games using the impersonation pattern attempt to trick players into thinking their friends are playing the game. They will create fake profiles with the player’s friends’ names and profile pictures to show up in leaderboards, send “gifts”, or invite to events. Impersonation was largely used in mobile and Facebook games in the early 2010s and has lost effectiveness over time due to players’ vigilance.
